Dovetail Community Workshop offers woodworking classes for all skill levels, and memberships to use the shop for your own projects.

Our vision is for members to share space, tools, & expertise to create things they love, in a community of makers. Nothing is more satisfying than saying, “I made that.”

How It Works

Membership: To use the shop for your own projects, the first step is to enroll in a Shop Orientation class. Upon successful completion of this class, you can choose from a range of Membership options to use the shop equipment and space during posted business hours, when staff is available to supervise and assist.

NOTE: Novices should take a few beginner courses to develop the skills and confidence to work independently before signing up for membership. We are not equipped to supervise and guide beginners from start to finish on a project outside of a class.

Classes: Membership is not required to take classes. Orientation is typically not required prior to class enrollment unless otherwise indicated in the class description.

Our History

Dovetail owner Erin Perry O'Donnell began developing the concept for a community woodworking shop in 2015, when she participated in the Albuquerque Startup Weekend event. Erin's pitch took 2nd place in the competition, and she gained valuable insight into starting and running a business.

For two years, Dovetail hosted popup make-and-take events around the city to gauge interest in the community shop idea and spread the word. In February 2018, Dovetail opened a fully equipped shop in its current location.

Since then, we have welcomed hundreds of makers as members and class participants to create, build and learn. Ask us how we can help you do the same.
