Basics of Woodworking Series

Basics SeriesThis four-class series introduces you to the basic tools and skills you'll use in most woodworking projects, along with design guidance and safety considerations. Participants will make a box from a provided plan.

Now registering for February. Class dates: Saturday mornings, Feb. 2, 9, 16. Attend any orientation before then to be eligible. Orientations take place Wednesday nights, or contact us to arrange an alternate time.

Make a wine bottle stopper using the lathe! Turn a small blank of wood into a beautiful handmade stopper (hardware is provided). Please note, class size is limited to 2 people.

Learn to identify many types of softwoods and hardwoods, including exotics, in this free workshop! We'll talk about the qualities of each variety, how to tell them apart, and choosing the right wood for a project.

Tuesday, February 5, 6:00 pm, plus a followup date TBD. Part 2 will be scheduled at each student's convenience.
Skill level: Beginner

Make a classic cutting board using contrasting hardwoods. You get to choose your woods and design your board as you like in the first session. Then, you'll return the next day or later to trim, sand, and finish with food-safe oil. Choose the two-person ticket to make one project together with a friend! All materials provided.


Router Skills: Wood Inlay

Step up your router skills and learn to rout a design a board, then fill with a contrasting wood. We will also go over best practices, techniques and terminology for the routers -- one of the most versatile tools in woodworking.
